Beyond Play

Using the Nex Playground in Therapeutic Settings

Meet Brittni

I’m Brittni Winslow, MS, OTR/L, a pediatric occupational therapist and the owner of Emerge Pediatric Therapy and The Therapeutic Edge Collective. I’ve been practicing as an occupational therapist since 2012, and I’m deeply passionate about working with clients who experience differences in sensory processing, emotional regulation, and executive function. At my clinics, we serve clients ranging from birth through early adulthood, offering a wide range of specialties and neurodiversity-affirming interventions tailored to their unique needs.

When I was introduced to NEX Playground, I immediately saw countless ways it could enhance pediatric occupational, physical, and speech therapy. I began implementing the system into treatment sessions across my three clinic locations and was amazed by the results. I fell in love with the mission of the NEX Team and started collaborating with them to share the success we’ve had with the NEX Playground with clinics around the world.
In pediatric occupational, speech and physical therapy, learning and growing should be fun! The Nex Playground is an innovative game system that provides cutting edge ways to support therapy goals, in a way that everyone can benefit from! With Nex Playground, the possibilities are endless.
Areas pediatric therapists are addressing using the Nex Playground:
  • Bowling, Basketball Knockout and Hungry Hungry Hippos are my go-to games for promoting bilateral coordination, isolating one side of the body, and crossing midline!
  • We work on body awareness using Fruit Ninja, Go Keeper and the dance games like Groove with Grover and Barbie! The feedback the kids get from the game helps them to improve accuracy and motor planning.
  • Our clients with sensory processing differences often struggle with dysregulation after video games, but the Nex Playground provides regulating input through jumping and isometric movement that regulate their system as they play!
  • As a physical therapist, strengthening exercises are sometimes challenging to make play based. The Nex Playground gives us a chance to work on building strength by adding in a motivating game that increases strength and endurance as they play!
