We’ve been on a mission to turn screen time into active and communal playtime since 2017, when a small group of us left Apple with a bold vision: to create a new kind of platform built for joyful, movement-based play.
We started in sports with HomeCourt, an app designed to help kids get better at basketball using AI and motion tracking on iPhone. We even partnered with the NBA to distribute it around the world. Our second app, Active Arcade applied our motion tracking tech to a collection of fitness games, helping people all over the world stay active during the pandemic.
Both went viral, but as we invested further in helping families get active together, we realized a smartphone screen couldn’t deliver the immersive experience we dreamed of. As both parents and innovators, we knew we could create something bigger that aligned with our beliefs. From 3D-printed prototypes to a sold-out first run of devices, we proved there was a real hunger for a platform that gets kids and families off the couch and into motion. By 2023, Nex Playground wasn’t just a product—it was a shared experience, designed with love and brought to life by a growing community.
Today, Playground is getting kids and families moving every day with active games that excite us, invigorate us, and remind us all why togetherness matters. #PlayThatMovesYou
Meet Dr. Emily Greenwald, our Chief Pediatric Advisor. Together, we’re making sure the evolution of Nex Playground is rooted in the very best science. Because play isn’t just recreational, it’s foundational to a child's physical, emotional and developmental well-being.
We started Playground for Good because we deeply believe in the transformative power of play. In an effort to bring active fun beyond our living rooms, we’re donating Nex Playground to children’s hospitals, local libraries and community centers.
