What’s Eligible with HSA/FSA Funds?

Eligible:

  • Nex Playground device (hardware)
  • Sales tax and shipping for the device (if allowed by your plan)

Not Eligible:

  • Play Pass
  • Play Pass renewals or add-ons
  • Merchandise, accessories, or other non-medical items

HSA/FSA funds must be used only on the Nex Playground device itself. If you want to purchase Play Pass or other items, those must be paid with a separate, non-HSA/FSA payment method.

Because HSA and FSA rules come from the IRS but are enforced by individual plan administrators, coverage and documentation requirements may differ by provider.

Purchase Directly with HSA/FSA Funds

The quickest way to purchase a Nex Playground with HSA or FSA funds is by using an HSA/FSA card. Simply select “Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA” at checkout on Nex Playground official online store and pay with your HSA/FSA card.

Step-by-Step Using Flex

  1. Add Nex Playground to your cart
    • Make sure your cart only includes Nex Playground (no Play Pass or other add-ons) if you intend to pay with HSA/FSA funds.
  2. Go to checkout
    • Enter your shipping and contact details as usual. This is only available to eligible US customers.
  3. Select Flex as your payment option
    • Choose the “Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA” option and follow the prompts. There will be a consultation with a doctor to verify your eligibility, this is a live text-based consultation.
  • You’ll enter your HSA or FSA card details just like you would for a regular debit or credit card.

  1. Confirm your total
    • Ensure your HSA/FSA balance covers the full cost of your device, including tax and shipping, if eligible under your plan.
  1. Place your order
    • Once your payment is approved, you’ll receive an order confirmation email with an itemized receipt. Save this receipt! Your provider may request it for their records.

If your HSA/FSA card is declined for any reason, you can still complete your purchase using a personal credit/debit card and then submit a claim for reimbursement (see below).

How to Submit for Reimbursement (If You Pay Out of Pocket)

If you’re not able to use your HSA/FSA card at checkout, please follow these steps before asking your provider for reimbursement:

1. Check Eligibility with Your Provider

Before submitting a claim:

  • Confirm that Nex Playground is considered an eligible expense under your specific plan.
  • You will need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) to qualify for the expense.

2. Gather Your Documentation

Your HSA/FSA provider may ask for:

  • Itemized receipt or invoice
    • Your order confirmation email and/or invoice from Nex or retailer (showing product name, date, and total paid).
  • Proof of payment
    • Your credit or debit card statement, if required.
  • Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)

3. Submit Your Claim

While every provider’s process is different, it usually looks like this:

  1. Log in to your HSA/FSA portal or mobile app.
  2. Start a new reimbursement claim.
  3. Enter your purchase details (date, amount, merchant name, etc..).
  4. Upload your receipt and any required documentation.
  5. Submit your claim and monitor the status through your provider.

If approved, your provider will reimburse you directly, usually via direct deposit or mailed check, depending on your plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nex Playground HSA/FSA-eligible?

Yes, Nex Playground is eligible as a health-supportive product for many HSA/FSA plans, and we label it as HSA | FSA Eligible on our storefront. However, the final decision is always made by your plan administrator. We recommend confirming eligibility with your specific provider before purchasing.

Why is Flex not an option at checkout?

If you are logged into "Shop Pay", you will not see the "Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA" option. Click "checkout as guest" to log out first.

Can I use HSA/FSA funds to pay for Play Pass?

No. At this time, HSA/FSA funds can only be used for the Nex Playground device itself.

Play Pass and other add-ons are not eligible and must be purchased with a regular payment method.

Can I split my purchase between an HSA/FSA card and another card?

Many HSA/FSA processors and payment gateways prefer or require that each transaction be paid with a single card.

If your HSA/FSA card doesn't cover the full amount or is declined:

  • Complete your purchase with a regular card, and
  • Submit a claim to your provider for reimbursement of the eligible portion of your purchase.
What if my HSA/FSA card is declined when using "Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA"?

If your HSA/FSA card is declined:

  1. Double-check your available balance and card details.
  2. Contact your HSA/FSA provider if the issue persists.
  3. If you still can't complete the transaction, check for eligibility before purchasing.
Can I buy Nex Playground for someone else using my HSA/FSA funds?

HSA and FSA funds can generally be used for you, your spouse, and your eligible dependents as defined by your plan and IRS rules.

If you're purchasing Nex Playground as a gift for someone who is not an eligible dependent, your HSA/FSA provider may not approve reimbursement.

What happens if I return a Nex Playground purchased with HSA/FSA funds?

If you return a Nex Playground purchased with HSA/FSA funds:

  • Any refund is typically issued back to the original payment method (HSA/FSA card or personal card).
  • If you already received reimbursement from your provider for a purchase you later return, they may require you to update your claim or repay the reimbursed amount.

For specifics, see our Refunds policy and check with your HSA/FSA provider. If you have any remaining questions please contact your insurance provider.

What is an HSA/FSA?

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) let you set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for qualified health expenses. HSAs are linked to high-deductible health plans, and funds in these accounts roll over year after year.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) allow you to use pre-tax dollars for eligible health expenses. Unlike HSAs, FSAs are not tied to a specific health plan and often require you to use the funds within the calendar year. FSAs are typically provided by employers.

What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?

A Letter of Medical Necessity is a document from a licensed healthcare provider that verifies the medical necessity of a product or service, making it eligible to purchase using your HSA or FSA. This might include items or treatments like supplements or physical therapy that aren't automatically recognized as eligible expenses.

How long is my Letter of Medical Necessity valid for?

Your Letter of Medical Necessity is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. It can be used for any eligible purchases made during this time. Be sure to keep and submit all related receipts when filing with your HSA/FSA administrator.
